My ab-so-lute favorite!
"Ma Flodder" in Annafunan, Isabela province, 1991.
Annafunan is a small village 10 km off the Daan Maharlika where I did a case study on rattan (yantok) trade. It is (used to be) 90% dependent on rattan furniture making. The village was the main "supplier" of rattan worksmanship in Region II. "Cory-sets" and other creative designs for local use were made by the dozens daily. It was a wonderful place, but I wonder what it is like there now, as rattan pole supply was dwindling fast in part because of deforestation, in part because of overharvesting and ironically because of the logging ban.
